The Canadian Women’s Olympic Basketball Team clinched a birth in the 2012 London Olympics with a 71-63 win over Japan in a qualifying tournament being held in Turkey on July 1 (Canada Day). This will be just the Canadian Women’s Teams first appearance in the Summer Olympics since 2000. Canada’s Men’s team failed to qualify for the 2012 Olympics. The Women’s 2012 Olympic Basketball tournament gets under way on July 28. There are two groups of 6 teams each. Each team will play 5 preliminary games with the top 4 teams from each group advancing to the quarter-finals.
